SafeNest ("we," "us") is built on a simple premise: the app tells you about neighborhoods, not the other way around. We collect the minimum needed to make the app work. This policy explains what that is.
1. Information we collect
Searches you perform. Addresses you search, radius settings, and comparison selections are processed to generate your reports. Recent searches and saved reports are stored so the History and Reports tabs work.
Location (optional). If you tap "Use current location," the app requests your device location once to run that search. We do not track your location in the background, and you can use every feature of the app without ever granting location access.
Purchase status. Apple processes all payments. We receive confirmation of your subscription status (active, expired, trial) but never your name, payment card, or billing details.
Diagnostics and analytics (in the app). We collect anonymized usage and crash data (such as which features are used and whether reports generate successfully) to fix bugs and improve the app. This data is not tied to your identity. Our website is measured separately, and differently — see section 2.
Support communications. If you email us, we keep the correspondence so we can help you.
2. Website analytics and cookies
This section is about the safenest.lol website, not the app. On our website we use Microsoft Clarity to understand how people read our pages — which sections they reach, where they stop, and which links they use.
What it does. Clarity records your interaction with the page: mouse movement, clicks, scrolling, and which pages you visit. It replays those interactions to us as session recordings and aggregates them into heatmaps. To do this it sets cookies in your browser, and it is a third-party service — the data is processed by Microsoft under Microsoft's privacy terms, not held by us alone. We say this plainly because "we use analytics" would not describe it accurately: session replay is a recording of how you used the page, and you are entitled to know that before you use it.
What it does not see. Most of the website is informational — no account, no login, nothing to fill in. The one place you can enter data is the "Get a report" page, described in section 3; there, Clarity does not receive payment details, which go directly to our payment processor. Everything described in section 1 (your in-app searches, saved reports, and location) happens inside the iOS app, and the app does not run Clarity. We do not use any of this for advertising, and we do not sell it.
If you would rather not be recorded. Blocking third-party scripts or cookies for safenest.lol — in your browser's settings or with any standard content blocker — stops Clarity from loading at all. The website works normally without it.
3. Buying a report on the website
The "Get a report" page lets you buy a one-time neighborhood report for a US address, delivered to you as a PDF. When you use it, the address you type is sent to our address-lookup providers — Photon/OpenStreetMap for suggestions and the US Census Bureau's geocoder for confirmation, which returns the address's coordinates. The confirmed address and its coordinates are then sent to our report service (safenestreports.com) to build the free preview and, if you purchase, the full report from the public data described in section 6. If you buy a report, payment is handled by a third-party payment processor — we do not receive your card details — and we use the email address you provide only to deliver your PDF. We do not use your address or email for advertising, and we do not sell them.
4. The SafeNest iOS app
Looking up an address. When you look up an address in the app, it gathers neighborhood data from several sources, sending that address's coordinates (and, where a source needs it, its ZIP code or state) to each: our own SafeNest servers, including safenestreports.com, for crime-incident data, registered-offender records, and air quality; the US Census Bureau (api.census.gov) for demographics and property-tax estimates; FEMA for flood and disaster history; the US EPA for nearby environmental sites; and OpenStreetMap for the amenities used in the walkability and lifestyle sections. These lookups are by location only — they are not tied to your name or to a user account.
The written summary. The report's written summary is generated by sending the collected data for that address, through our server, to a third-party AI provider (DeepSeek), which returns the text. Only the report data needed to write the summary is sent; it is used to generate text, not to identify you.
Location (optional). If you allow location access, the app uses your device's location to look up your current neighborhood. It is requested only when you use that feature, is not tracked in the background, and every feature works without it.
Analytics. The app collects anonymous usage events through TelemetryDeck — for example, searches performed, reports generated, PDFs exported, and screens viewed — to help us fix bugs and improve the app. These events are not tied to your identity, do not include the address you searched, and are not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Purchases. Apple processes all payments; we do not receive your card or billing details. Your purchase entitlement is stored in your iCloud Keychain so you can restore it on your devices.
Storage. Your saved reports and recent searches are stored on your device. Saved reports are included in your device's standard iCloud backup if you have iCloud Backup turned on (you control this in iOS Settings); your recent search history is kept only on the device and is excluded from backups.
5. What we do not collect
- No account is required to use SafeNest, so we hold no usernames or passwords.
- We do not collect your name, contacts, photos, or browsing history.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers.
- We do not use your searches to build advertising profiles.
6. The neighborhood data in our reports
The information displayed in SafeNest reports — crime statistics, registered offender records, flood zones, school data, environmental sites, census figures — comes from public government sources. It is data about places and public records, not data collected from you. We are a presenter of this public information, not its author. Concerns about the accuracy of an underlying record should be directed to the issuing agency; concerns about how we display it can be sent to us.

8. Sharing
We share data only with service providers necessary to run the app and the website — such as cloud hosting for report generation, the third-party AI provider that writes report summaries (section 4), the address-lookup, payment, and email providers used for website reports (section 3), Apple for subscription management, and Microsoft for the website analytics described in section 2 — under agreements that limit their use of it to providing services to us. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users, the public, or SafeNest.
9. Retention
Search history and saved reports remain until you delete them in the app or request deletion. Anonymized analytics are retained in aggregate. Support emails are kept for as long as reasonably needed to assist you and maintain records.
10. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you by emailing support@safenest.lol. Depending on where you live — including under Quebec's Law 25, Canada's PIPEDA, and US state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act — you may have additional rights, and we honor applicable requests regardless of your location. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We do not discriminate against users who exercise privacy rights.
11. Children
SafeNest is not directed to children and is intended for users 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Security
Data in transit is encrypted, and we limit access to personal information to what is needed to operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we hold very little about you by design — the best protection is not collecting data in the first place.
13. International users
SafeNest is operated from Canada and its reports cover US addresses. By using the app, you understand that your information may be processed in Canada, the United States, or other jurisdictions where our service providers operate.
14. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
